Mr. Men & Little Miss

Remember them? Recently, I have been seeing them alot in the advertisement and on T-shirts. Is the fad back or it didn't even fade. I don't know, I am out of touch. Only after I had kids did I revisit all those familiar cartoon/book characters I once knew so well during my childhood. Taking in orders does has its advantages, though it meant less sleep; it gives me the opportunity to attempt stuffs that I don't usually do. I do enjoy challenges. Even more, when customers came back with positive feedback, telling me that the cake brought smiles to their kids.

This is my first attempt doing figurines with gumpaste. More than I would like to admit, it does get addictive. Espcially making those minute details. I particularly liked the teapot and candle. The characters were chosen by the birthday girl, I think. I thought it would be a wee bit odd if I were to put the characters on the cake without a theme. Thus I organised a picnic for them.

Little Miss Sunshine having a cookie.

Mr. Bump probably complaining of his recent bump. Mr. Tickle grabbing a donut.

Mr. Impossible looking pleased. Little Miss Chatterbox seemed to like the spread.

I had fun working on this cake. Ah Girl couldn't resist this either. She has already made plans for her next next birthday.

Rei, this cake is too cute! I wish someone will make one for me, haha! Such attention to detail! When you say gumpaste, you are referring to fondant? Thanks for sharing! ;)

Hi Rei,
The figurines are so beautiful and dedicate! Your works are really so fine and detail. I really admire your patience and passion for this. Like what Gina said, fondant can get addictive. I've just started, so I'm a long way there compared to you. You'll truly be my inspiration! :)
Congrats to your blog being published in magazine! At least it shows that all your sharings and works on your blog has not been a waste. With regards to those nasty comments being said about you or your family, there just such "disturbing" people around. What HHB said right. It's just something that bloggers will have to accept somehow and take those with a pinch of salt.
Having read and follow your blog, I really think that you are one super woman to juggle all these stuff. You're very brave and strong. Keep up your spirit and your energy. Don't let nasty words, comments affect you mentally. You know you have a lot of people who will support you.
Cheerio, ATM Rei! ;>

What can I say, Rei ?? U're so talented, well done , keep it up !!
By the way, I'm curious, the cake looks frosted with cream to me & the grass buttercream so u got to refrigerate it, won't the gum paste figurine sweat ?

Rei! What can I say? Another masterpiece! The teapot and candle are soooo cute!! Btw, what's the diff bet gum paste and fondant? Does gum paste dry faster than fondant?

Pei-Lin : I'm still learning. We can exchange tips.

HBS : Yes it is still sugarpaste/fondant. When you add Gum-Tex or Tylo powder, it becomes gumpaste.

PAB : Thanks for the encouragement.

AOE & Reena : I have no idea if they were being consumed.

Terri : Yes, I made the fondant myself. I added Tylo powder to it instead of Gum-Tex. It's cheaper and holds better. Easier to dry and shape and doesn't sweat.

Anon : Thank you for the compliments. Unfortunately, I do not have the recipe for Hainanese Chicken rice.

Chocolate Lover : Thank you!

Lorrine : Thanks! Yes, the cake is frosted with whipped cream, not buttercream. Gumpaste doesn't sweat as bad as fondant. The figurines can hold quite well for a while. Perhaps you would like to give it a try. Email me if you can't find Tylo powder in KK, I'll mail you a bottle to experiment. :D

WF : Gumpaste has more elasticity, suitable for making flowers. It dries harder than fondant and so far, I have not experienced it sweating.
